Complete Furnace Services
A furnace depends on several components working together, including the thermostat, burners or heating elements, heat exchanger, blower, electrical controls, safety devices and ductwork. A problem in one part of the system can affect heating performance throughout the property.
B & B Heating and Air Conditioning provides the services needed throughout the life of your furnace. We can help plan a new installation, diagnose heating problems and complete routine maintenance.
Furnace Installation
A successful furnace installation begins with choosing equipment that matches the heating requirements of the property. Installing an oversized furnace does not necessarily provide better comfort. Equipment that is too large may cycle frequently, create uneven temperatures and experience unnecessary wear.
Before recommending a new furnace, we evaluate the property and discuss your heating needs, comfort preferences and efficiency goals. Installation planning may include reviewing:
- The heating requirements of the property
- Furnace capacity and efficiency ratings
- Single-stage, two-stage and variable-speed options
- The condition and design of existing ductwork
- Available airflow
- Thermostat and control compatibility
- Electrical and fuel requirements
- Venting and combustion-air requirements
- Equipment warranties
Proper sizing and installation help a new furnace provide more consistent comfort while operating as efficiently as the equipment and property conditions allow.
B & B Heating and Air Conditioning is a York Certified Comfort Expert and can help you compare available York furnaces. Financing options are available for new furnace installations. Ask our team about current financing information and application details when planning your project.
Furnace Repair
Furnace problems do not always begin with a complete loss of heat. Weak airflow, frequent cycling, unusual sounds and uneven temperatures may indicate that the system needs professional attention.
Depending on the symptoms, a furnace diagnostic evaluation may include checking:
- Thermostat settings and communication
- Electrical connections and controls
- Ignition-system operation
- Burner condition and performance
- Blower operation and airflow
- Safety controls
- Venting and combustion conditions
- Temperature rise across the system
- Overall heating performance
After evaluating the furnace, we explain what was found and discuss the recommended repair. If the equipment has recurring problems or requires a significant repair, we can also help you compare repair and replacement.
Furnace Maintenance
Regular furnace maintenance can help identify developing problems before the heating season places sustained demand on the equipment. It also provides an opportunity to inspect accessible components, evaluate system operation and identify conditions affecting airflow or performance.
A maintenance visit may include:
- Reviewing thermostat operation
- Inspecting accessible electrical connections
- Checking ignition and burner operation
- Examining accessible safety components
- Evaluating blower operation and airflow
- Reviewing the air filter
- Inspecting accessible venting components
- Testing the furnace through a heating cycle
The exact work performed depends on the furnace, fuel type and system condition. Maintenance cannot prevent every possible breakdown, but it can support reliable operation and provide a clearer picture of the equipment’s condition.
Signs Your Furnace May Need Service
Changes in heating performance can provide an early warning that your furnace needs professional attention. Schedule an evaluation if you notice:
- The furnace will not turn on
- The system runs but does not produce enough heat
- Airflow from the vents has become weak
- Some areas remain colder than others
- The furnace starts and stops frequently
- The system runs continuously without reaching the thermostat setting
- The equipment produces banging, rattling, buzzing or grinding sounds
- The ignition system repeatedly attempts to start
- The blower operates differently than usual
- Heating costs increase unexpectedly
Some symptoms have several possible causes. A furnace that will not start, for example, may have a thermostat problem, electrical issue, ignition failure or activated safety control. Professional diagnosis helps identify the actual source of the problem.
Common Furnace Problems
Furnace Is Not Producing Heat
A furnace may fail to produce heat because of a thermostat issue, ignition problem, electrical failure, fuel-supply problem or activated safety control. Internal testing and repairs should be performed by a qualified HVAC professional.
Furnace Has Weak Airflow
Weak airflow may be related to a dirty filter, blower problem, duct restriction or another condition affecting air movement. Restricted airflow can reduce comfort and place additional strain on the system.
Furnace Turns On and Off Frequently
Frequent cycling may be caused by airflow restrictions, thermostat problems, overheating, control issues or equipment sizing. Repeated short cycles can reduce comfort and increase component wear.
Furnace Makes Unusual Noises
Rattling, buzzing, grinding, banging or squealing can indicate loose components, electrical problems or wear in the blower assembly. New or worsening sounds should be investigated before additional damage occurs.
Furnace Blower Runs Continuously
A blower that does not turn off may be responding to the thermostat fan setting, a control problem or another system condition. The thermostat and furnace controls should be evaluated to determine the cause.
Furnace Safety Concerns
Fuel-burning furnaces require proper combustion, ventilation and exhaust. Problems affecting these processes can create safety concerns in addition to reducing system performance.
Turn the furnace off and seek professional assistance if you notice:
- A strong gas odor
- Soot or unusual discoloration near the equipment
- A carbon monoxide alarm
- Electrical or burning odors
- Repeated ignition failures
- Visible damage to venting components
If you smell gas, leave the building and contact the gas utility or emergency services from a safe location. Do not operate electrical switches or attempt to locate the source yourself.
Every property with fuel-burning equipment should have working carbon monoxide detectors installed according to applicable safety guidance. Detectors should be tested regularly and replaced as directed by the manufacturer.
Should You Repair or Replace Your Furnace?
Many furnace problems can be corrected with a practical repair. Replacement may deserve consideration when the equipment is older, has recurring problems or requires an expensive major component.
Factors to consider include:
- The age and general condition of the furnace
- The estimated repair cost
- Previous repair history
- Availability of compatible replacement parts
- Current heating performance
- Energy use and operating costs
- Indoor comfort and temperature consistency
- The likelihood of additional repairs
A repair may make sense when the furnace is otherwise dependable and the problem is limited to a serviceable component. Replacement may provide better long-term value when repair costs are becoming frequent or the equipment can no longer heat the property reliably.
If replacement is recommended, B & B Heating and Air Conditioning can help you compare available furnaces and financing options for the installation.
Choosing an Efficient New Furnace
Furnaces are available in different capacities, efficiency levels and operating configurations. Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency, commonly called AFUE, describes how efficiently a furnace converts fuel into usable heat over a typical year.
Efficiency is important, but the highest AFUE rating is not automatically the best choice for every property. Equipment sizing, ductwork, airflow, installation quality and operating costs should also be considered.
Features that may be available include:
- Single-stage or two-stage heating
- Variable-speed blower operation
- High-efficiency models
- Compatible smart thermostat controls
- Improved sound-reduction features
- Enhanced humidity and airflow control
Our team can explain the differences between available options and help you choose equipment suited to your comfort goals and budget.

I use B&B heating and air for my HVAC system maintenance. they are always professional, personal, and on time! what really set them apart from the “big boys” that they are small, family owned, and operated for three generations, and they really know their stuff! One other thing that really impresses me, is that they are not running specials to service the system for some ridiculous price like $39, so they can simply come in and try to upsell. today, I had them look at my 25 year-old heating system, they made a few tweaks, did some cleaning, and measured pressures and system outputs. they recommended two capacitors that were functioning well but losing their power… Out the door for a full service with the two capacitors was $206.. Money well spent to ensure the continued operation of my entire system!!Posted on Google![]()
